Keith is a proud 38-year resident of Markham’s Ward 1. After graduating from university, he
chose to make Thornhill his home — a decision that shaped both his personal and professional
life. Here, he raised his family, built and operated a business, volunteered in the community,
and dedicated himself to public service.
That commitment began early. Elected at age 26, he was one of the youngest trustees to serve
on the York Region District School Board, and the youngest member of the Board at the time
when he served for six years.
Over the years, Keith has contributed to the community in many ways. He served as a Board
Member and Chair of the Planning and Finance Committee for the Markham Theatre, was a
member of Markham’s Heritage Committee, and supported local education through the Parent
Advisory Council at Thornhill Secondary School, where his sons attended school. He also helped
shape the Thornhill Heritage District Guidelines as part of a citizen panel and served on
Markham’s Advisory Committee on Accessibility from 2014 to 2019.
Keith count’s having coached hockey with the Thornhill Community Hockey League – playing at the Thornhill Community Centre and Clatworthy arenas – for six years, and sponsoring a team, as the highlight of his community involvement.
First elected to Markham Council in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, he currently serves as Chair of one of Markham Council’s two Standing Committees — the first Ward Councillor appointed to that role. He also serves as Chair of Markham District Energy, a thermal energy utility owned by the City of Markham.
Among his many accomplishments on Council, Keith is especially proud of helping secure the city’s purchase of the 22.4-acre Shouldice Hospital lands — preserving an important historic property and protecting public green space for current and future residents to enjoy. He believes local government works best when it is practical, fiscally responsible, and focused on community.
Keith remains deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the community he calls home and is committed to working every day to keep Thornhill a strong, vibrant, and welcoming place to live.
